The mission of Stronger Together is to take the next step beyond interfaith dialogue into interfaith cooperation and action.
We are living in times that call for religious leaders to model more than tolerance and intellectual discussion of different faith traditions. Forming cooperative relationships between Christians and Muslims will change the prevailing narrative that we are enemies, to a vision of people of deep rooted faith joined together to offer solutions to conflict, mistrust and injustice in a deeply divided world.
Any Christian or Muslim religious leader who is already interested in building ties between faith communities but hasn’t had the time or access to a network to do so will want to attend Stronger Together. There will be opportunities for deepening understanding of the theological grounds in both faiths for honoring God in relationships of solidarity. Presenters with more than 60 years of combined interfaith relationship building will offer fresh insights and inspiration to empower participants. Panel speakers with current, culture shifting experience in interfaith work will offer their stories and consultation.
But the primary energy of the day will be put towards a call to action. Methods of overcoming suspicion, apathy and barriers stemming from theological difference will be offered. Strategies will be given for connecting congregations who desire to expand their potential for peacemaking and justice bringing. There will be opportunities to link into interfaith work that is already happening. And at the conclusion of the day’s sessions, participants will be invited into homes to experience the warm hospitality of faith-filled hosts for an optional dinner and further informal sharing.
Because a central goal of Stronger Together is to unite people seeking more substantive interfaith relationships, all who are interested in attending are encouraged to bring colleagues, fellow leaders and friends who share their desire. The Christian – Muslim alliances we create will have a tremendous impact in turning the prevailing tide away from separation and suspicion toward collaboration and healing.
